Nobody needs help noticing a Sri Lanka Blue Magpie. A Sri Lanka Bush Warbler is another matter: olive-brown, low in the undergrowth and rarely still.
A bird like this asks different questions. How does it move? What shape is the bill? Where in the bush does it feed? Those are the questions that turn a list of names into a way of seeing, and once learned they apply to every other bird, and to most other things.
Colour does the work for you. A plain bird makes you do it yourself.
